The Rhondda Outlaws have proudly sponsored Steve Parry for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
Steve is a south Wales lad with a fantastic record in Rugby League. He started his league career with Cardiff Demons where he also picked up representative honours with both Wales U16 and U18.
He then helped the Valley Cougars win the Welsh Championship in 2008, playing alongside legends of the game including big John Sanigar, Eddy Davies and a young Buzz Allen.
After junior rugby he got his first professional contract with the South Wales Scorpions in 2010. In his debut season he scored 19 tries from 19 appearances and was nominated for the League 1 young player of the season. In this same debut season he picked up his first full Wales cap after being picked to play at hooker by Wales’ head coach Iestyn Harris.
His try scorer prowess was evident again the following years when he crossed the whitewash 13 times in 21 appearances for the Scorpions in 2011 and then 11 times in 23 appearances in 2012.
He picked up more Wales cap in 2012 against both France and the old enemy, England.
On his return to club rugby, he moved over the border to Gloucestershire All Golds for their debut League 1 season. He has remained with the All Golds since and is now a name synonymous with the club.
After a period of injury during 2013 and 2014 he was back to his best; scoring 14 tries in 25 appearances for his club. He also picked up more Wales caps as he helped Wales win the European Championship.
In 2016 he maintained his impressive try scoring form with 20 tries in 25 matches. He continued to pick up caps for Wales and helped them secure qualification to the 2017 World Cup.
So far this season (2017) Steve has bagged 20 tries for his club and we expect big things in the World Cup.
Steve is a great guy and a great advert for south Wales. We wish him all the best in the World Cup. Cymru am byth!
