12 Days of Christmas 4

Day 4 of our “12 Days of Christmas” success stories and this time it’s the turn of the Outlaws Women as we celebrate their formation earlier this year:

πŸŽ„ With the meteoric rise of Women’s Super League over the past few years, 2019 felt like the perfect time to launch Women’s Rugby League here in Wales.

Ourselves and Cardiff Blue Dragons agreed to each look to form a Womens team and play the first ever game of open-age Women’s Rugby League in Wales.

We didn’t have much time to get things ready. The very first Women’s training session for the Outlaws was on Thursday 11th July 2019 with the historic match taking place on the 27th July 2019.

With just three training sessions under their belts, the Women took to the field to mark the start of Women’s Rugby League in Wales in a double header which saw the two mens’ teams face off later that afternoon.

A crowd of 300 turned out for the match which unfortunately didn’t go the Outlaws way; losing 52-10 to a very strong and well trained Cardiff side.

Ffion Owen got her name in the record books for the Outlaws though by scoring the clubs first ever try.

Just 8 days later on the 4th August 2019 the two sides met again. This time at Sardis Road, home of Pontypridd RFC.

It was a much closer affair with the Outlaws just narrowly losing 28 – 30.

So it looks like they’ll be some scores to settle next season. πŸŽ„
