12 Days of Christmas 8

The greatest thing about being involved with Rugby League in Wales is the amount of opportunity available to players to represent Wales. On day 8 of the “12 Days of Christmas” success stories we are looking at Wales Students and the Outlaws involvement.

🎄 The clubs first involvement with Wales Students came in 2018 when the Student Four Nations competition was hosted at Sardis Road, Pontypridd.

The competition saw England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales go head to head to be crowned Four Nations Champions. The games took place over the 17th to 22nd June.

In the Wales squad we had 2 former players picking up caps:

  • Macauley Harris
  • Matthew Morgan

We also had a lot of involvement in an off-field capacity. As well as organising the Sardis Road venue we had Outlaws Team Manager, David ‘Dai’ Albertelli appointed as the Wales team manager.

Men’s team Prop Ieuan Griffiths was a touch judge for the competition and one of our club photographers, Chris Powell captured snaps for the competition. Last but by no means least; James ‘Buzz’ Allen was an official ball boy for the competition and his performance was described as ‘not that bad considering’.

It wasn’t a bad competition for Wales overall as they picked up a win against Ireland but England took the championship.

The following year Dai Albertelli was back as team manager and we saw an increase in the number of Outlaws selected to 4:

  • Cobi Green
  • Macauley Harris
  • Mathew Morgan
  • Max Hendy

This year the competition was at the University of Edinburgh from the 22nd to 30th June.

The results went largely the same way as the previous year with Wales getting a single win against Ireland and England being crowned Champions
